2015 Announcement
Dear friends, we are saddened to bring you the news that we will not be holding a contest this year. We have had two successful events at Freeman Lake, but we find ourselves too beholden to the generosity of our sponsors and the City of Elizabethtown. At the two-year mark, we wanted the event to be closer to standing on its own feet, but we do not feel that we have a solid enough foundation at this point to move forward in 2015.
We are eternally grateful to our sponsors, particularly Carl Swope and the Swope Family of Dealerships, and Wayne Smith at Waste Transport Services. Without the generosity of businessmen and women who love their community and want to see it flourish, we would never have been able to get off the ground. The support we received from the City of Elizabethtown, Sarah Vaughn, Charlie Bryant, Mayor Edna Berger, and the late Mayor Tim Walker has been tremendous, and was the primary reason we chose E'town to try and rebuild the contest. Finally, we are grateful for all of you who have supported us not only in our move but over the last 39+ years. It is for you, our friends and family, the fans and musicians, that we want to make this work.
Your encouragement and positive reaction to the new location have been much appreciated. As difficult as it was to fold up the tent at Rough River, we waited several years too long before we did it. Our goal in finding a new location was to find somewhere convenient for our musicians, somewhere with financial and labor support, and somewhere with sponsors who would invest in our product. We found all of these in E'town.
Please continue to check back with us for updates. And please support our sister contests this year. It is extremely difficult to start and build a contest from the ground up, and only slightly less difficult to keep one going from year to year. Most depend on your attendance for their success. And all of us are dependent upon the musicians who travel across the country to compete. We wish you all the best.
Warm Regards,
The Board of Directors
